⚠️ HARD FREEZE WARNING: January 25-26, 2025

ACTION REQUIRED BY THURSDAY, JANUARY 22

Metro Atlanta is expecting an extended hard freeze with overnight lows in the mid-to-upper teens. This is a severe weather event requiring immediate preparation.

Required Actions:

  • Keep thermostat at 65°F or higher (minimum 60°F) — NEVER turn heat off
  • Open cabinet doors under all sinks to allow warm air circulation
  • Let faucets drip constantly — use lukewarm water (mix hot and cold to protect both pipe systems). Drip should be the width of a matchstick
  • Disconnect all garden hoses from outdoor faucets immediately
  • Keep garage doors closed if you have an attached garage
  • Know your water shutoff valve location in case of emergency

Note: When temps drop below 20°F or stay below freezing for multiple consecutive days, leave faucets dripping 24/7.

You are responsible for salting your own walkways, driveways, and steps. Stock up on ice melt products now.

If Pipes Freeze:

  • Do NOT use open flames
  • Shut off water immediately at main valve
  • Apply gentle heat with a hair dryer if accessible
  • Call our emergency line immediately
