Below we have compiled resources for homestead exemption for metro Atlanta and surrounding counties for your reference. Resources are listed alphabetically by county. Although we make every effort to make sure the numbers and links are accurate, local municipalities are constantly making changes. Here are a couple of items to note when applying for homestead exemptions:
To be eligible for exemptions, the homeowner must own and occupy the home on Jan. 1 of the current year (in most cases).
Most cities and counties have a deadline of April 1 for exemptions to apply for the current tax year.
If the property is located within city limits, the homeowner may be required to file with the city as well - check with the municipality.
Homeowners may need to provide documents to prove ownership and occupancy. For those homeowners requiring assistance with closing documents we will be happy to help, just give us a call. Your closing attorney should be able to assist as well.
